Margot Rémeau
Visiting PhD Student
PhD student Margot Rémeau is a doctoral researcher in developmental and educational psychology, investigating the explanatory mechanisms underlying educational inequalities, in close collaboration with the statistical department of the French Ministry of Education. Her research aims to understand how educational inequalities emerge and develop from preschool through secondary education. She is currently a visiting PhD student working on multiple projects under the supervision of Dr Rakesh. These projects will be using large publicly available data to study socioeconomic disparities in children’s outcomes.
Her work addresses multiple dimensions of inequality, including socioeconomic background, gender, and relative age effects related to month of birth. Adopting a comprehensive and integrative perspective, she seeks to identify the mechanisms driving these disparities by jointly considering children’s individual characteristics and their family environments.
Methodologically, her research relies on large-scale longitudinal datasets and advanced statistical modeling approaches, including structural equation modeling, longitudinal mediation models, and growth models.
A central focus of her work lies in children’s cognitive, metacognitive, and socio-emotional competencies—often referred to as 21st-century skills—and their role in shaping academic trajectories and educational resilience across the school years.
